Carlton Football Club

In 2007, Visy and the AFL's Carlton Football Club announced a partnership that would turn the good old navy blues a new colour - green!

With help from Visy, Carlton set out to become an AFL green club. What does that mean? Well basically, Carlton put in place a host of environmentally friendly initiatives that would have an impact on the Club, players and supporters. And of course, the planet.

How are Carlton and Visy helping climate change?

  • A 'green team' of players have stepped up to act as environmental ambassadors. This means they get out there amongst schools and the community and educate people about how to fight climate change by recycling.
  • An environmental audit was carried out for the Club to measure and reduce its environmental impact.
  • Match day and media events, website initiatives and member programs were all carried out to encourage awareness and education around recycling and the environment.

This partnership continues to evolve, with Carlton's home base now called Visy Park.  As well as its role as a world class sporting facility, Visy Park also plays host to thousands of students each year who take part in the Visy Enviromaniacs Live at Carlton Football Club program.

Visy Park

As well as being the official base of the Carlton Football Club, Visy Park has undergone exciting change in recent years. A $19.5m redevelopment project has transformed Visy Park into a landmark precinct at Princes Park, incorporating everything from high performance training facilities to offices, medical and rehabilitation areas, community facilities and environmentally sustainable design (ESD) initiatives. It truly is a multi-faceted venue for sport, community and the environment.

The overall aim of the partnership between Visy and CFC is simple. By using public passion for football as a springboard, Visy hopes to educate and encourage young people to lead more sustainable lives. Whether it's by inspiring healthier lifestyle choices or encouraging environmental awareness, the CFC Ambassadors set a great example for young people to follow.

Environmental Ambassador - Chris Judd

Working across all of Visy's sustainability, recycling and environmental programs is Chris Judd - Carlton Football Club Captain and AFL star. In his official role as Visy's Environmental Ambassador, he helps get out there and raise awareness of environmental issues as a spokesperson and advocate. Whether he's talking to Visy customers and employees or the general public, Chris helps to get sustainability on to people's radars. It's hard not to be swept up in his passion and commitment for environmental issues.

As part of his role, Chris is involved in media, community, customer, staff and stakeholder programs, including:

  • Representing Visy's existing national school education programs
  • Promoting recycling messages
  • Representing Visy at education forums for stakeholders
  • Media engagement for Visy's environmental campaigns

Visy is proud to have Chris on board, and excited about his involvement in our activities.
